South Africa &Beyond
&Beyond
It's all in the name. If you have never done an experience with the &Beyond group, these are bucket list items. They are located all over the world, but it is an experience of various sorts, depending on where the group is located. But it was that and nothing short, an experience and beyond.
One of our days in the bush, we ventured out to another game preserve about an hour away from the game lodge in which we were staying. Pindah. If you mention or ask about the name while anywhere in the vicinity of the area, all locals, rangers and even likely tourists know what it's about. This preserve is 55,000 acres and is the largest privately owned preserve in the region. Visiting and doing a game drive at the preserve is something you need to reserve in advance, as this group and preserve was very popular, and but with very little admittance.
This is the place where the dreams of viewing all of the Big Five, came as close to real as possible for me. Before coming on this adventure, while still in the planning stages, I was able to get recommendations from a few various people we know in regards to experience and what to expect. Some people have been traveling to South Africa over multiple trips, and still haven't seen all of the Big Five. It's all about where you go and what is out and about at that time. Just as everything else in life, timing is everything.
We headed straight away to find the King of the Jungle. If you've ever questioned why lion's are called that, go see one, out in wild in their natal habitat. You won't wonder anymore. As we approached, he was resting so majestically underneath a palm tree, escaping the heat of the day. It was quite the African postcard moment. The ranger explained that it was certain that he didn't want to get too far away from his kill. Just behind the palm frauns, we could see a freshly conquered zebra carcas. When we retuned a few hours later, we found him along with his brother, fully indulging themselves. The sound of the lions, roaring and guarding their prey from other looker by's truly made me feel as if we were in the middle of our own Lion King story.
