Venice: The City of Love
Che Bello! The floating city on water, Venezia! After spending a few days here, I can honestly say that this is the most romantic city in the world, and has completely won my heart.
Between the 472 bridges that cross the mystical city, traveling by gondolas and pristine wooden boat taxis, the architecture, churches and trattorias around every corner, we enjoyed every minute of our time here. And let me add to that, I would go back every year if I could.
Venezia is a city of charm everywhere you look. But there is no site in the city more famous than the Piazza San Marco, which was our first stop of the trip and became very acquainted with it during our stay.
We arrived on New Years Eve, traveling just a short trip from Slovenia and decided to immediately immerse ourself in the city and the plaza, and of course starting off with a beautiful lunch consisting of what else? Pizza and Sangiovese. While dining outside in the center of the piazza, we had what I thought was the best lunch views I've ever experienced. Backdrops of the Bassillica, clock tower, the corner of Dodge's Palace sitting alongside the water, while birds and people flocked throughout the square.
Dawning upon the new year, we returned to the piazza, which was lit up not only by the much anticipated fireworks over the water, but the entire Basillica and hallways surrounding it were lit up with more lights than a midnight mass.
It truly was a sight from a fairytale.
