Ski Verbier
Ski Verbier!
Let me start but saying, the skiing here was the best of our entire trip. This is where skiers go to train, of course, but now knowing the mountain, we might have done our trip in reverse. The mountain(s) themselves are huge, take everything you've ever skied, and double it, at least. I've skied in Colorado, Oregon, Utah, California..but this is different. Unfortunately, I think I'm now ruined from skiing in the states for many reasons!
There is one main entrance onto the lifts (on the top of the Main Street) that takes you up the mountain by góndola, but depending on where you are staying, you can jump on from one of the other areas as well, and access the other sides of the mountains quicker. Here is the ski map for the 4Valees, http://www.verbier.ch if this isn't your first rodeo, get the pass for the 4Vallees, it will allow you to access and ski the entire mountain range versus just Verbier. Trust me, this is the way to go, especially if you are going to be there for multiple days. The skiing itself at the Verbier resort is good, but the 4Vallees is where you are going to be able to access some of the more interesting terrain, and less crowds. From here, your possibilities are endless (or close to).
One of the major things I noticed while skiing here, and all over Switzerland, is that there are a plethora of places to stop on the mountain for a little espresso or bite to eat. Not just a main lodge where you have to stand in line with the masses, but little ski hauss, igloos, yurts, all super cute and all different from the next. They are all over the mountains, so you spend more time enjoying and skiing than you do in line. Ski a few runs, pop in for an espresso or coffee and Baileys, ski a few more runs, new lunch spot with a bottle of wine, and finish the day off strong. This became a little bit of our motto, but this is also slightly our motto for life. You may be thinking..a few runs before stopping? But let me tell you that some of these pistes (ski runs) may take you 1.5 hours to get down. They are fabulous!! You spend so much more time skiing than you do in lift lines.
Hallelujah!
